Winter Skincare Routine + Preparaing your skin for Winter
I don't know about you guys but my skin changes when the seasons change and winter can be very harsh on your skin.
Cold temps can leave your skin dry and stressed. Here's how you can prepare your skin for the Winter..
1.) Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate
When the temperatures are cooler, it can cause your face and body to be dry. You can solve that problem by exfoliating. Exfoliating will get rid of those dry patches and leave your skin nice and smooth.
Make sure you're getting the necessary amount of water per day. Not drinking enough water can definitely show on your skin. Especially your lips. When you hydrate from the inside, it will help with the unnecessary dryness.
3.) Shower in lukewarm water
I know what you guys are thinking.... Taking a lukewarm shower in the winter?!?! While I love a steamy hot shower after a long day, it can also dry out your skin.
4.) Switch from lotions to body butters or oils
Me personally, I have never been a fan of lotion. I have extremely dry skin no matter what the season and lotion doesn't work for me. Using a body butter, cream or oil will hydrate your skin even more than lotion. (Tip, after your shower, apply your body butter or oil while your body is damp).
Winter Skincare Routine
My routine switches up during winter because the products may not work the same as they did in the warmer months.
1.) Facial Cleansing
This is my favorite cleanser and I actually use this through out the year. Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser ($7). I love this cleanser! It's gentle and doesn't leave my face dry. I use this morning and night.
2.) Mask (optional)
I love doing masks. Especially when my face is feeling dry. Around this time, I go for a mask that has hydrating ingredients. I use masks 1-3 times a week, depending on the current state of my skin.
During this time of year, I don't use a toner. Toner drys out my skin so I typically stay away from those. But what I have been using us the Mario Badescu Rosewater Spray. I use this after I wash and moisturize my face.
4.) Serum + Moisturizer
I have recently dabbled in to serums and I have been using a vitamin c serum. For moisturizer I have been sticking with ole faithful and using the Cetaphil Moisturizing lotion.
